What is the difference between open-admission and restricted-admission degree courses?
In a restricted-admission degree course:
- only a limited number of candidates can be allowed to enrol
- candidates must take an admission test and their scores will be used to create a ranking
Please bear in mind that taking a CEnT does not mean securing a position in the ranking and applying for a degree course. To apply, please follow the procedures set out by the university in the admission notice.
In an open-admission degree course:
- there is no restriction on the number of candidates that can enrol
- an entrance-level assessment can be required.
The type of assessment required is stated in the admission notice of your degree course or on the university website.
How can I enrol in an Italian degree course?
Check the admission notice (or call for application/admission - the name may change from university to university) of your degree course on your university website, where the steps you must follow to enrol are outlined. If there's no admission notice available, check out the enrolment info on the website of the university you're interested in.
If you need help or have any doubts, please contact the International Student Office of your university.

OFAs are meant to fill gaps in knowledge or skills. Each university degree course defines what these obligations imply: for instance, taking another test, revising specific topics with additional studying material, or being required to pass specific exams before moving on to the second year.
